Heute: Viking-Knit-Kurs/Tonight: Viking Knit Class

Alle, die meinen Blog regelmäßig lesen, wissen, daß ich meine Feuertaufe im Bastelkurse geben bereits im Dezember hinter mich gebracht habe. Und nun geht’s in die zweite Runde mit einem Viking-Knit-Kurs. Auf dem linken Foto seht ihr einige Probestücke, die ich den Teilnehmern der Kurse zeigen kann, damit sie sehen, was sie mit der Technik alles anfangen können. Auf dem rechten Foto sind einige Verschlüsse, die ich für die Kursteilnehmer gemacht habe, damit sie ihre Ketten oder Armbänder damit fertigstellen können. Also wünscht mir Glück für den Kurs!

Everyone, who reads my blog on a regular basis, knows that I taught my first beading class back in December. Now there is my second class about Viking Knit. On the left pic you can see some examples what can be done with VK and I’ll take them with me tonight to show them to the participants. On the right pic are some clasps for the participants to finish their pieces. So wish me luck for the class!

Roundmaille

Dieses Armband habe ich ganz vergessen und nun wurde es dringend Zeit, diese Schönheit mal zu posten. Das Armband habe ich während einer Schlechtwetterphase meines Besuches in Venedig gemacht. Der Weave nennt sich Roundmaille oder auch Star Weave, Hexagon oder Snake Chain (wegen der Form und Flexibilität). Man macht zuerst ein Band mit European 4-in-1, das etwas länger ist als das fertige Armand und schließt mit dem letzten Ring die Kette zur runden Form. Das European 4-in-1-Band muß deswegen etwas länger sein als das fertige Stück, da sich die Kette durch den letzten Schritt etwas verkürzt. Die fertige Kette wirkt sehr massiv, ist aber sehr flexibel. Damit das Armband nicht so schwer wird, habe ich Aluringe (18gauge, ID 4mm, AR 3,9 von Beadsisters)  genommen und einen 925er-Silber-Verschluß dazu.

I almost forgot about this bracelet and it was time to post this beauty. I made this bracelet during some rainy days of my visit in Venice last fall. The weave is called Roundmaille or also Star Weave, Hexagon or Snake Chain (due to its shape and flexibility). First you make a European 4-in-1 sheet, a bit longer than the finished piece, and zip up the chain with the last ring and giving it its round shape. The starting 4-in-1 sheet has to be a bit longer than the finished piece, because the chain is shortened by zipping it up in the last step. The finished chain looks very massive, but is very flexible. Due to weight issues I chose to take aluminium rings (18gauge, ID 4mm, AR 3,9 by Beadsisters) and a sterling silver clasp.

Art Bead Contest: Poseidon in Borneo

Kurz vor Weihnachten habe ich noch an einer besonderen Herausforderung teilgenommen. Jeannie von Jewelry by Jeannie hatte auf ihrem Blog einen Wettbewerb ausgeschrieben, in dem es darum ging, aus einer ihrer FIMO-Perlen ein Schmuckstück zu machen, das bis zum 24.12. fertig sein muß. Ich habe es gewagt und teilgenommen (nicht daß ich in der Vorweihnachtszeit nichts zu tun gehabt hätte ). Die Perle, die Jeannie mir geschickt hat, trägt den Namen ,,Poseidon” und es war klar, daß da ein Meeresdesign her muß. Et voilà! Das Armband steht in meinem Artfire-Shop zum Verkauf.

 Shortly before Christmas I participated in a special challenge hosted by Jeannie of Jewelry by Jeannie. On her blog she announced a contest where you got to make a piece of jewelry featuring one of her polymer clay art beads…….before Christmas! I took the challenge (not that I haven’t had enough to do before Christmas ). The bead that Jeannie sent me is named “Poseidon” and it was absolutely clear that I wanted to make a sea-themed design with it. And here it is! The bracelet is now for sale in my Artfire Shop.

Two Sides of the Story

Hier ist ein weiteres Stück, das ich mit Perlen aus Jenis Challenge-Kit gemacht habe. Das Muster kommt aus dem letzten E-Book auf der Beads Baubles & Jewels-Website und habe Perlen aus meinem Vorrat und dem Challenge-Kit verwendet. Der Armreif läßt sich einfach über das handgelenk rollen und braucht deshalb keinen Verschluß, was vor allem für Metallallergiker gut ist. Man kann entweder die blaue oder die grüne Seite außen tragen, je nach Gardrobe.

Here’s another piece made with beads from Jeni’s challenge kit. I got this pattern from the latest ebook on the Beads Baubles & Jewels website and used a combination of seedbeads from the challenge kit and from my stash to make this embellished RAW bangle. It easily rolls over your wrist and depending on your wardrobe you can show one side or the other. In my design one side is green and the other is blue. Another plus is that the design has no clasp, which means no metal and no problems for people who are allergic to metals.

Armband-Swap 2: Oktober/Bracelet Swap 2: October

Ich mache ja auch bei einem vierteljährlichen Armband-Swap mit, der von Lois aus der BD-Community organisiert wird. Diese Runde war die zweite und meine Zielperson war dieses Mal Pat (Guckt euch unbedingt ihren schönen Schmuck an!). Sie liebt alle ,,kühlen” Farben wie blau und grün und so habe ich für sie ein Peyote-Armband aus Miyuki-Würfelperlen in verschiedenen Blautönen gemacht. Die Idee für dieses Armband stammt aus dem Buch ,,Mastering Beadwork” von Carol Huber Cypher und verwendet werden 4mm Miyuki-Glaswürfel in einem einfachen Peyote-Muster. Der eigentliche Clou aber ist der Verschluß: eine eingewebte Toggle-Schließe komplett aus den gleichen Glaswürfeln wie das Armband. Perfekt für Schmuckliebhaber, die allergisch gegen Metalle sind.

Ich habe natürlich auch ein Armband bekommen, aber ich habe es VERLEGT!!!! Bevor ich ein Foto gemacht habe! Könnt ihr das glauben? Naja, sobald ich es wiederfinde, gibt es Bilder.

I also participate in a quarterly bracelet swap, which is organised by Lois from the BD community. This round was the second one and Pat was my mark (Have a look at her jewelry!). She loves all “cool” colors like blue and green and so I made her a peyote bracelet with Miyuki cubes in several shades of blue. The bracelet idea comes from the book “Mastering Beadwork” by Carol Huber Cypher and uses 4mm Miyuki glass cubes in a simple peyote bracelet. The clou is the toggle clasp: the bar is woven of the same cubes as the bracelet and the “ring” is a hole woven into the bracelet. This bracelet features no metal components, so it is perfect for people who are allergic to metals.

Of course I got a bracelet, too, but guess what? I MISPLACED IT!!!! Before I took a pic! Can you believe that? As soon as I found it, I show you a pic.

Sommer-Armband/Summer Bracelet

Eine weitere von Jeannies FIMO-Perlen hat in einem Armband-Design ein Zuhause gefunden. Ein paar Tage, bevor ich die Perlen von Jeannie bekommen habe, habe ich einen Beutel opaker fliederfarbener Rocailles gekauft, die perfekt zu der marmorierten Linse von Jeannie passen. Ich habe noch Stiftperlen und alabasterweiße Rocailles hinzugefügt und ein Spiralseil-Armband draus gefädelt. Der Verschluß ist eine Magnet-Kugelschließe.

Another one from Jeannies beautiful pc beads went into a bracelet design. Just a few days before I got the package with Jeannie’s beads I bought a bag of opaque violet seedbeads and they are a perfect match for the swirled lentil bead. I added some bugle beads and ceylon white seedbeads and created a spiral rope bracelet, finished off with a magnetic ball clasp.

Chainmaille: Romanov-Armband/Bracelet

OK, noch mehr Chainmaille, diesmal mit einer Byzantine-Variation genannt Romanov. Dafür macht man einzelne Byzantine-Elemente und verbindet sie mit größeren Ringen zu einer Kette. In die Mitte der einzelnen Elemente kann man noch Perlen einsetzen. Mein Romanov-Armband ist aus 1mm/18 gauge-Kupfedraht gemacht und der AR für die Byzantine-Elemente ist 3,5. Der Verschluß ist ebenfalls von mir mit dem gleichen Draht hergestellt. Die Perlen sind kobaltblaue tschechische Glasschliffperlen und ca. 6 mm groß.

OK, more chainmaille, this time with a variation of Byzantine called Romanov. For this variation you make single byzantine elements and assemble them with bigger jump rings to get a chain. In addition one can add beads in the middle of the single elements. My Romanov bracelet is made from 18-gauge copper wire and the AR for the Byzantine elements is 3,5. The clasp is handmade by me from the same copper wire than the bracelet. The beads are 6 mm cobalt blue Czech cut beads.

Chainmaille: Byzantine-Armband/Bracelet

Während ich über ein paar Designs für den Oktober-Armband-Swap nachgedacht habe, sind mir wieder mal meine Ringe für Chainmaille in die Hände gefallen und ich habe mal kurz, so quasi im Vorbeigehen, dieses Armband gekettelt.  Das Problem ist, daß ich dieses Mal meine ,,Zielperson” im Swap nicht wirklich gut kenne und deswegen auch nicht weiß, was ihr gefällt. Aber dieses Armband erschien mir definitiv zu wuchtig. Und deshalb seht ihr es nun schon hier. Gemacht mit 1mm/18-gauge Kupferdraht mit einem Innendurchmesser von 3,5 mm, folglich auch einer AR von 3,5.  Die Perlen sind tschechische Glasschliffperlen von Hudson’s Bay und die Schließe habe ich selbst aus 1mm-Kupferdraht gefertigt. Ich denke, ich werde das Armband in meinem Artfire-Shop stellen.

While thinking about some designs for the October Bracelet Swap, I ran across my jump rings for chainmaille and so I made this bracelet. The problem with the current bracelet swap is that I don’t really “know” my mark this time and I don’t know what she likes. But this bracelet definitely seemed too bulky to me and so you can see it here already. Made from 18-gauge copper wire with an ID of 3,5 mm, which makes an AR of 3,5. The beads are Czech cut beads from Hudson’s Bay and the clasp is handmade by me from 18-gauge copper wire. I think I’ll put this in my Artfire shop.

Flower-Inspired Beading Challenge

Die Forum-Mitglieder auf Beading Daily hatten ihre erste komplett von den Mitgliedern organisierte Challenge ausgeschrieben und als aktives Mitglied blieb mir natürlich nichts anderes übrig als teilzunehmen. Es sollten Schmuckstücke eingereicht werden, die von Blumen inspiriert sind. Ich habe zwei Kandidaten ins Rennen geschickt:

The forum members on Beading Daily had their first challenge completely arranged by the forum members and as an active member I had to enter. Of course! The challenge called for pieces inspired by flowers and I entered two pieces:

1. Jungfer im Grünen (Love in a Mist), ein Armband inspiriert von der gleichnamigen Blume, gefädelt mit 11/0 und 6/0 Rocailles und einem böhmischen Glasknopf als Verschluß./Love in a Mist, inspired from the flower with the same name, woven with 11/0 and 6/0 seedbeads and a Bohemian glass button as a closure.

2. Carnelian Chrysanthemum, eine Kette mit einem geschnitzten Karneol-Anhänger und Karneolchips und mit Messingelementen von Vintaj Natural Brass./Carnelian Chrysanthemum, a necklace with a carved carnelian pendant and carnelian chips and with Vintaj Natural Brass elements.
